Our client is seeking an accomplished and technically strong Civil Engineer to join the development team and play a critical role in delivering the civil and infrastructure systems that underpin a high-quality, integrated multi-user urban development project. This is a hands-on role for a professional who combines strong engineering judgement, construction-site leadership and commercial awareness, with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and technical stakeholders while maintaining uncompromising standards of quality, safety and delivery.

Reporting to the Project/Operations Management team, the Civil Engineer will provide day-to-day technical oversight of civil and infrastructure works across the project. The role will cover earthworks, roads and pavements, storm-water drainage, water reticulation, sewer infrastructure, foundations, reinforced concrete, structural and masonry works, utility infrastructure and external works. The Engineer will ensure that projects are executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, Bills of Quantities, construction programmes, statutory requirements, quality standards, budgets and agreed timelines.

Responsibilities

Construction & Technical Delivery:

  • Lead and supervise day-to-day civil and infrastructure works on site.
  • Ensure construction complies with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, BQs and applicable standards.
  • Verify setting-out, levels, dimensions and coordinates.
  • Identify and resolve technical and constructability issues before they impact delivery.
  • Coordinate architects, structural and MEP consultants, contractors, quantity surveyors and other specialists.

Project Performance & Commercial Control:

  • Monitor construction progress against approved programmes and milestones.
  • Track contractor resources, productivity, materials and equipment.
  • Verify quantities and completed works for contractor valuations.
  • Review and provide technical input on variations and cost implications.
  • Identify delays, risks and bottlenecks and recommend practical mitigation measures.
  • Support effective material utilisation and minimise wastage and rework.

Quality, Safety & Compliance:

  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and construction quality.
  • Coordinate inspections and relevant material and laboratory testing.
  • Ensure defective or non-conforming works are promptly rectified.
  • Ensure contractors comply with approved safety procedures, risk assessments and environmental requirements.
  • Support compliance with relevant Kenyan construction regulations, permits, approvals and statutory requirements.

Reporting, Documentation & Handover:

  • Prepare regular site and project progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of drawings, inspections, tests, RFIs, site instructions and variations.
  • Maintain accurate as-built information.
  • Lead/support snagging, defects management, practical completion and technical handover processes.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university.
  • Registration as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or appropriate registration under applicable Kenyan requirements.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant post-graduate experience in civil engineering, construction and site supervision.
  • Proven experience in residential, commercial, mixed-use or infrastructure development.
  • Strong practical knowledge of roads, drainage, water, sewer, earthworks, foundations, concrete and external infrastructure.
  • Strong ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil and services drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant engineering/project-management software.
  • Working knowledge of BQs, construction programmes, contractor valuations, measurements and variation management.
  • Good understanding of Kenyan construction, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Professional Engineer registration with EBK will be an added advantage.
  • Membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working on large-scale real-estate or mixed-use developments will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, MS Project, Primavera or comparable applications will be an added advantage.
