Our client, Baraka Healthnet is a non-profit organisation with a vision to reach a dignified and improved life for marginalized and vulnerable people in Kenya by providing efficient, reliable, timely, accessible, quality and sustainable medical services to the marginalized and vulnerable as well as creating a favourable environment for prevention and awareness for a healthy living making them custodians of their health. They currently have operations in Mathare Valley, Athi River, Korogocho and Bomani in Kilifi.

Baraka Healthnet are searching for an accountant to ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, internal controls are maintained, and donor and organizational requirements are met. The Accountant will support daily finance operations, including budgeting, reporting, procurement, vendor liaison, and audits, while working closely with the finance and operations teams. As part of the regional management structure, the role also contributes to strengthening governance, efficiency, and transparency across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete financial records in line with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including VAT claims and donor-specific reporting.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivables, reconciliations, cash flow, and budget monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial procedures, and Kenyan statutory requirements.
  • Initiate and process payments, ensuring appropriate authorization and supporting documentation.
  • Payroll processing and filling of statutory returns (PAYE, NSSF, VAT, etc.).
  • Manage procurement-related financial processes, including vendor account set-up and liaison.
  • Support travel and logistics-related financial transactions.
  • Coordinate external audits, liaise with auditors, and implement audit recommendations.
  • Oversee risk management and due diligence for contracts, grants, and other binding agreements.
  • Provide capacity building and technical assistance to program and operations staff on finance procedures.
  • Maintain organized financial filing and reporting systems.
  • Contribute to strengthening governance, transparency, and efficiency across finance and operations.

Requirements

  • University degree (BA/BAcc/BCom/BTech or higher) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional qualifications (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CPA, ICSA, IAC).
  • CPA (K) and a registered member of ICPAK in good standing.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, compliance, and audit processes.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded projects and grants management.
  • Knowledge of contracting and auditing standards for multi-year funds is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, AcePac, Pastel).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with the capacity to work under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written – in English).
  • Commitment to ethics and integrity.
